
Peter Scarpato
Peter A. Scarpato is an arbitrator, mediator and attorney working with Case Closure, LLC with over 25 years of experience in the adjudication, negotiation and resolution of business and legal disputes and handling of run-off operations.
He is a certified arbitrator/umpire and/or mediator with ARIAS-US, National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM), National Arbitration Forum, The Jansen Group, Inc., Reinsurance Association of America (RAA), Eastern District of NY, New York State Supreme Court - Commercial Division, New Jersey Superior Court and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.
He has been appointed to serve as arbitrator, mediator or umpire in dozens of civil, insurance, reinsurance, securities and commercial cases, ranging in value from $25,000 to multi-millions of dollars. He also managed the efficient and successful collection, commutation and settlement of billions of dollars in assumed/ceded reinsurance and direct property & casualty excess, surety and warranty run-off business for major insurance and reinsurance companies.
His many years as outside litigation counsel, in-house counsel, senior executive for domestic and international insurance and reinsurance companies and chief negotiator have given him a unique foundation of strategic and substantive experience and skills - tools that allow him to provide a balanced and effective analysis to handle the simplest and most complex disputes.
As part of his professional background, Peter has developed a specialty in construction and surety law, practice and claims settlements. He was the Chief Operating Officer and later Senior Vice President – Profit Center Manager of AIG’s Global Surety Division. In this role Peter managed the surety claims Run-Off Unit which utilized in-house accounting, claims, engineering and legal experts to analyze and settle major construction claims worth hundreds of millions of dollars that involved both US and international contractors. Peter is also a Mediator and Expert Witness on the National Panel of Construction Dispute Resolution Specialists for Construction Dispute Resolution Services, Inc. and has completed training to participate on Dispute Resolution Boards at major construction sites.
